About HEARS
HEARS is the Hospital Emergency Amateur Radio System, historically presented online at N4HRS.org.
Recovered site material shows a linked amateur-radio repeater network spanning North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The network has supported wide-area amateur-radio communication, routine nets, and emergency-preparedness activities.
Network administration & contributors
Many archived posts were authored by Derek, KD4ADL. Historical posts also credit Tucker, WG8E with system integration, repeater-controller configuration, and assistance with Virginia and Farmville system expansion.
Emergency preparedness
The archive includes examples of HEARS repeaters being used for emergency exercises. A January 2017 post, for example, announced that the Virginia HEARS repeaters would be used for a Simulated Emergency Test and that the NC and VA systems would be separated during the exercise.
